Baldur's Gate III er ikke bare et af årets mest populære spil, det har i øjeblikket også årets højeste metascore og overgår således The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom med nogle decimaler. Der er allerede ved at forme sig et konsensus om, at det er et af de bedste rollespil nogensinde, men udvikleren Larian havde slet ikke regnet med, at spillet ville få så overvældende positiv en modtagelse.
I en gæsteoptræden på Dungeons & Dragons YouTube-kanalen diskuterede Larians CEO, Swen Vincke, udviklernes egne usikkerheder omkring spillet i opløbet til launch.
"We were worried it was going to score 6/10, 7/10, there's going to be a bug, something's going to happen, it's going to break down, everyone's going to hate it. So that was literally our mentality going in, knowing that the content was good."
"But we were afraid of that, that was the thing that frightened us the most. Because it's a very big game, and so we know that stuff can go wrong. Although the game usually has a way of settling back on its feet. So we didn't expect it to go this well, we didn't expect that players were going to react so strongly to it."
Der er bestemt fejl i Baldur's Gate III, men de er bare små ridser i lakken; spillets kvalitetsindhold overskyggede de tekniske knaster for anmelderne. Spillets fejl bliver desuden fortsat rettet i opdateringer til spillet.
